Useful Information For Becoming An Organic Gardener

There are many different reasons for adopting organic gardening methods. For example, some people prefer to use organic horticulture to cultivate edibles for the dinner table. But, you need to put in a lot of effort to grow your garden effectively. You probably do not know how to go about growing an organic garden on your own.

To prevent your plants’ systems from becoming shocked, you need to gradually transition them from higher to lower temperatures. Put them in the sun outside for a couple of hours during the first day. As you continue the first week of the project, gradually extend the duration of sun exposure. By the weekend, the plants can make that big move without a problem!

When you are tending your garden in the fall, be on the alert for stink bugs. They love to inhabit peppers, beans, tomatoes and all kinds of fruit varieties. If you do not keep them under control, the damage can be excessive, so keep an eye out for them.

Set your mower blades higher, so you don’t cut the grass too short. If you leave your grass kind of high, your roots will be deeper and your lawn will be stronger and not dry out. Short grass means short roots and dead grass.

Knee Pads

Knee pads are absolute miracle accessories if you work in a garden with plenty of low-growing plants. The amount of time that you spend gardening on your knees can make your knees hurt by the time you are done. Investing in a comfortable pair of knee pads made specifically for horticulture can really reduce the pain you may feel from the pressure of being on your knees for extended periods.

Cat Spraying No More

Do you enjoy fresh mint, but don’t like how they engulf your garden in their growth? Instead of planting mint in your garden, keep it in a large container or pot to prevent it from spreading. Plant the container in the ground, but its walls will hold those roots captive, and will prevent the plant from engulfing your garden!

Spectrum Pesticides

When gardening, don’t use any broad-spectrum pesticides. Broad spectrum pesticides don’t only kill the offending pests, but the beneficial ones also. Bugs that provide a benefit to your garden are more easily killed by these broad-spectrum pesticides, you may simply end up with a bigger pest problem. When this happens, you will spray another round of pesticides to get rid of the pests, thus creating a never-ending cycle for yourself.

As you’ve just read, organic horticulture does require research, effort, and hard work in order to begin growing organic plants on your own. Persistence and patience are also important traits for successful organic gardener. By keeping in mind the above tips, you’re on the right track towards being successful in your organic garden.
